How many promo codes does ACX give you?

How many US and UK promo codes can an eligible ACX title receive?

ACX currently says eligible exclusive rights holders initially receive 25 codes for each marketplace, US and UK. An eligible title can receive another 25 in a marketplace after at least ten initial codes are redeemed there and the rights holder reaches 100 qualified purchases across the catalog. The cap is 50 codes per marketplace per title, subject to actual account eligibility.

These details come from ACX’s official Promo codes help page, updated October 6, 2026. Check that page and your own ACX account before planning a campaign, because eligibility matters.

Initial allocation: treat each marketplace separately

For an eligible exclusive title, the starting allocation is 25 US codes and 25 UK codes. That does not mean one interchangeable pool of 50. A US code is for the US Audible storefront, and a UK code is for the UK storefront.

Eligible Royalty Share producers may also receive codes under ACX’s rules. The presence and quantity visible in your own Marketing area are the operational authority for your title.

Maintain separate inventory from the beginning. A clear ledger has one US section and one UK section, with status fields for available, assigned, redeemed, and closed. This avoids the mistaken assumption that unused capacity in one marketplace can satisfy demand in the other.

Requirements for an additional allocation

ACX describes two conditions for an additional 25 codes in a marketplace:

  1. At least ten codes from the initial batch must have been redeemed in that marketplace.
  2. The rights holder must have 100 qualified purchases across the catalog of titles.

The second condition is often misstated. It is not necessarily 100 purchases of the individual audiobook seeking more codes. ACX’s current page explicitly describes the catalog of titles.

Paid cash purchases and member-credit purchases qualify. Trial and promotional-code redemptions do not. Therefore, distributing the first allocation can satisfy the redemption condition, but those promo redemptions do not themselves count toward the qualified-purchase condition.

Once eligible, the additional allocation takes the title to a maximum of 50 US and 50 UK codes. Do not present that maximum as an automatic entitlement for every audiobook.

Timing and release status

ACX says new codes can take up to an hour to become available. Codes cannot be redeemed before the audiobook’s release. If a launch-day listener reports an immediate failure, confirm release status and allow for code availability before treating the inventory as defective.

Track codes through Marketing → Promo codes in ACX. Your campaign spreadsheet or distribution platform is useful for assignments, while ACX tracking helps reconcile actual code status.

An upload option is not an ACX allocation

AudioSwap accepts US and UK codes obtained through publishers' own eligible ACX accounts. It does not issue codes or determine whether another allocation is available. Check issuance in ACX rather than inferring entitlement from a platform's upload screen.

Only upload codes reserved for AudioSwap. If the same code remains in a newsletter list or group spreadsheet, it can be redeemed elsewhere while appearing available on the platform. Channel assignment and ACX status should agree before you publish.

Plan around confirmed inventory

Build the campaign from codes already visible, not from an assumed future allocation. A useful process is:

  • confirm the title and marketplace in ACX;
  • export or copy the codes while preserving the original file;
  • split codes into channel-specific batches;
  • record assignment and known redemption;
  • compare the ledger with ACX tracking; and
  • add newly issued codes only after they appear.

If you work in both stores, set distinct goals and messages for each. Always ask which Audible storefront the listener uses. Send US codes to the US ACX redemption page and UK codes to the UK page.

Avoid allocation myths

More codes do not guarantee more listeners, faster redemptions, reviews, sales, or rankings. The allocation is inventory, not an outcome. Listener fit, clear presentation, correct store matching, and responsible follow-up still determine whether the inventory becomes useful.

Do not rush the first ten redemptions by assigning codes without checking interest or marketplace. A poorly matched claim may remain unredeemed or unlistened. The practical objective is a reliable trail for every code.

Build an allocation worksheet

Create one row per marketplace and record four numbers: codes visible in ACX, codes reserved for each channel, codes assigned, and codes still unassigned. Channel batches must add up to no more than the inventory you hold.

For an illustrative starting pool of 25 US codes, a publisher might reserve 10 for direct readers, 10 for a structured platform, and keep five unassigned for troubleshooting or a later campaign. Those values are an example, not a recommended split or expected result. The useful feature is that every code has exactly one location.

Add a reconciliation date and an owner for updates. If a campaign is withdrawn, confirm that an unredeemed code was never revealed or claimed before assigning it elsewhere. ACX showing no redemption does not prove that nobody holds the code.

Plan for more inventory without depending on it

Build the active campaign around codes already visible. Then write a contingent plan for any later allocation: which audience would receive it, how marketplace will be checked, and where assignments will be recorded. Do not accept requests against that second batch until the codes appear.

This prevents a rush to distribute initial codes solely to unlock more. At the end of each review period, total assignments by marketplace and compare them with platform and ACX records. Investigate mismatches one code at a time. A reliable count is more useful than a large nominal pool whose ownership is unclear.

Add a final control column called “safe to assign.” Mark it yes only when the code is present, in the correct marketplace pool, and absent from every active channel assignment. “Not yet redeemed” is not the same status: a listener may already possess it.

When a title reaches its confirmed ceiling, close intake before the last safe code is assigned if you need capacity for troubleshooting. Tell future requesters that no codes are currently available rather than promising an allocation that depends on another listener abandoning theirs.

For organizing that trail, follow what to do with ACX promo codes. For separate-market planning, see the US versus UK comparison. The official count is simple; maintaining two accurate pools is the part that deserves care.
